A tragedy isn’t just determined if someone dies or not and isn’t just pathos either. Death isn’t tragic by itself it is tragic by determining by is there suffering or not. For a story to be tragic there needs to be suffering. Tragedy shows us pain and gives pleasure. But, if there is neither pain nor pleasure it isn’t tragic. The Wild Duck isn’t a tragedy because it only shows a little bit of certain elements of a tragedy but, not enough to be a tragedy. Also Hedvig doesn’t have a fatal flaw and she sacrificed herself. Though she isn’t responsible for her death. I thought it was sad that she killed herself but, that doesn’t mean the now it is simply a tragedy. Her life didn’t really change much of anything even though she killed herself to save her father.
